Whatever side of the political aisle you lean towards, right, left or center, you won’t want to miss the Florida Legislative Update, jointly presented by our own Jaye Abbate and Maureen Dinnen at our Monday, April 10th meeting.

The 2023 Florida State legislature is currently in session in Tallahassee proposing numerous changes to the Florida State education and child welfare system.  These changes could have far- reaching and dramatic impacts on the futures of Florida students, families and education institutions.

Jaye, Vice President of Communications + Community Relations for the child advocacy group Florida’s Children First will focus on the key bills that affect children and families.  These will include changes that will affect vulnerable populations including children with disabilities, children experiencing homelessness, and those in the child welfare system.

Maureen, former chief lobbyist for Florida university and college faculty, founding president of the state teacher’s union, and a former elected member of the Broward County School Board, will bring us up-to-date on the bills focusing on education, and how to find and contact your representative and senator.  You will also learn what bills have already passed and their possible impacts.
