Dear BWA members,

Will you be my (BWA’s) Valentine?  Valentine’s Day is not just a day of romance but also a day of friendship and a day to recognize important relationships in our life.  Having been born in Colombia, I would always hear my parents speak of Valentine’s Day as the day of “love and friendship”.   

So this Monday at our lunch, I invite you to celebrate our BWA friendship and to take part in  the opportunities BWA offers to members to learn about themselves, connect with incredible women, build important relationships and friendships, develop as leaders, and make our community a better place through service and scholarships.  This happens through the bond that we develop with each other and through our educational and informative speakers, raising funds for our scholarship, networking with members and serving on BWA committees and board.  Let’s celebrate each other and make each other our 2014 BWA Valentine.

Did you know that in the 1840s, “Esther A. Howland began selling the first mass-produced valentines in America. Howland, known as the “Mother of the Valentine,” made elaborate creations with real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures known as "scrap." Today, according to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine's Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (An estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.) Women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines”.  Valentines Day- History.com. 

In keeping with the statistics, I invite you to make a special valentine purchase at our lunch that will have an everlasting impact in a woman’s life.  Please consider making BWA your Valentine and making a gift to our Scholarship Fund!  Let us extend our friendship beyond BWA and let’s make a difference in a woman’s education.

Our program this month features an amazing motivator and speaker, Christine Pallesen, the VP of Sales and Marketing for Dale Carnegie South Florida.

During her vibrant 20-minute interactive mini-workshop she will address these very important topics:
•Gaining insight into the three trends on the minds of leaders today;
•Practice techniques to engage and connect quickly with all generations in the workplace; and
•Strengthen personal leadership skills.

Important Registration Details
 

Your registration is very important to provide an accurate count. 

If you attend without registering OR you register and do not attend, you will be charged a fee.

If you must cancel after Friday, February 7th or, if you have questions about registration you must contact Debbi Hartman at Browardwomensalliance@gmail.com or 954-483-3060.

Members, please remember that registration requires an RSVP. No shows (You or your guests) will be charged. Late registrations will be charged. If you are bringing a guest it is your responsibility to insure that their luncheon is paid for (either by you or by the guest).

The value of membership in BWA extends beyond lunch and a speaker. As a returning member, you recognize the value of the relationships you renew and those you create with other like-minded women who are the leaders in Broward County. You also recognize the importance of contributing to the academic development of other aspiring women through our Scholarship Program.

We value your membership and the time you take from your busy schedule to join us at our monthly meetings. We’re committed to making those meetings meaningful to you.

Remember, if you have an event to promote, please bring materials and place them on the registration table to share. Self-introductions have been trimmed down to better accommodate speakers.

   Dorothy Klein reports that the Broward Public Library Foundation’s Night of Literary Feasts on Saturday, March 15 wouldn’t be possible without our amazing BWA sisters. Dina Bellows-Levine and her husband Jonathan are hosting a Feast dinner for author Dani Shapiro at their home in Plantation. Lenore Nolan-Ryan will be their caterer. Maria Soldani is COOKING the Feast dinner for authors T.D. Allman and Michael Sears at the Sea Ranch Lakes home of Jamie Finizio-Bascombe and her husband Tim.
